Chained Beasts demo

Checked 2026-10-18

The demo is a free Steam download, not a web game. It covers the Carthage arena. It does not promise that your saves move into the full game.

On 18 October 2026 the demo API still returns is_free true. The Steam storefront also exposes a Download Demo action for steam://install/3978510. This verifies a current install entry, not a completed client installation. August and September announcements said the demo would go offline at launch; that older plan does not describe the button currently shown.

What the demo contains

The demo went up on 12 November 2025. Featherweight described a tutorial plus five fights in the Carthage arena, an extended Act I, ending on the first boss that rides a rhino. It is 1–4 players. It is not Act II.

Steam categories on the demo: single-player, online co-op, shared/split-screen co-op, Remote Play Together, and the demo flag. Cross-Platform Multiplayer is on the full game’s category list and is absent from the demo’s. Do not assume a PS5 friend can join the demo.

  • Demo PC minimum: Windows 10 64-bit, i5-5257U or Ryzen 3 1200, 4 GB RAM, GTX 1050 or RX 460.
  • Full game asks for 8 GB. Same-screen co-op wants at least one gamepad.
  • Review snapshot saved with the research: 742 demo reviews, 724 positive, about 97.6% (Overwhelmingly Positive).
  • The 29 May 2026 demo update added executions, Ibex, Rhino, a bow, and limb weapons. The full game adds more beasts, arenas, afflictions, and progression.

Progress carry-over

I read the demo announcements and the launch note. None of them say whether demo unlocks, beast XP, or saves transfer. Until the studio says so, the honest line is: not published. Install the full game as a separate purchase if you want the Rome chapter.

Frequently asked questions

Is the demo multiplayer?

Yes on Steam: online co-op and same-screen co-op are listed. Cross-platform is not listed on the demo.

Chained Beasts co-op guide
Is the demo still up after launch?

On 18 October 2026 Steam shows a Download Demo action for app 3978510, despite the earlier removal plan. We verified the storefront entry, not an installation in the Steam client.

Can I play the demo on PS5?

I only found the demo as Steam app 3978510. Xbox has a trial SKU flag; I did not find a PS5 demo page.
